Antique French Commode / Chest of Drawers in Walnut Early 19th Century
A rare and striking walnut commode from Eastern France featuring a small bank of drawers to the top surface.
This tiered commode (commode à gradin) is constructed in solid walnut with contrasting boxwood inlay decorating the fronts of all the drawers and flanking the front sides.
All the drawer handles and escutcheons with decorative bows (Louis XVI Style) are cast in bronze.
The walnut has a warm, lovely aged, mellow colour / patina.
This characterful piece is in good condition and also shows some aged-related marks and old restoration, all in keeping with its age. There are minor signs of historic worm. These have been inspected in our workshop and are long since gone from the piece. The commode has been re-waxed and is ready to place in the home.
A key is supplied to open the top drawers. The larger drawers still have their original locks but no keys.
