Antique French Louis Philippe Arch Top Mirror 19th Century
An elegant French Louis Philippe mirror dating from the mid 19th century.
The frame has an approximately 8 cm moulding, finished in gilt over a red bole ground. The gently aged surface retains its character, with the warmer red undertone adding depth to the gilded finish.
The finish is a gilt paste over a red bole, slightly aged and in good condition overall. It has been treated for wood worm that is long gone.
The mirror retains its original mirror plate and wooden backboards, with some minor foxing towards the base of the glass, consistent with its age.
The reverse bears an original factory label reading St Gobain, Chauny & Cirey, a glassmaking company.
A hanging wire is fitted to the rear, although the mirror could also be placed above a fireplace or mantelpiece.
