French Art Nouveau Ceramic Wall Water Fountain by Longchamp - Terre de Fer
 
A distinctive and decorative French ceramic wall fountain by Longchamp, crafted in terre de fer and dating to the Art Nouveau period around 1890.
 
The fountain features a shaped backplate with flowing contours, designed to be wall-mounted.
 
Originally intended for use as a wall fountain or water feature, it now serves equally well as a striking decorative object full of character from the Belle Époque era.
 
Produced by Longchamp, established in Burgundy in 1832 — one of the early pioneers of French ceramic production — pieces marked terre de fer are known for their durability and refined finish. Terre de fer ceramics were widely used from the late 19th century for both functional and decorative wares, prized for their strength and subtle glazing.
 
The fountain features naturalistic, polychrome floral motifs typical of Longchamp's Art Nouveau production. There is an elegantly painted floral pattern with a distinctive diagonal band of delicate small white blossoms on a blue background, a classic technique used to balance larger floral sprays. The band is a hallmark of Longchamp's high-end pieces.
 
The floral patterns and diagonal band are characteristic of the Robert Charbonnier period (1880-1912). The design is consistent with the 'Printemps' (Spring) or 'Saxe' series.
 
The piece remains in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina consistent with its age. There is a small section of the inside rim missing - this is not visible when in place. Please see photographs.
