Stunning and rare gilt and black metal sunburst mirror by Chaty Vallauris 1950s.
The sunburst mirror first appeared in the 1940s, the work of Gilbert Poillerat, a skilled craftsman in metalwork. Chaty Vallauris continued to manufacture these mirrors in the 1950s in the Alpes-Maritimes and they gained popularity to become an icon of mid 20th century French design with the recognisable twisted metalwork and style of the branches.
This large original mid-century mirror is in excellent condition with a clear mirror plate.
The central ring around the mirror plate and the tips are in gilt.
Diameter: 77cm
Circa: 1950s
