French Antique Writing Table / Bonheur du Jour Transition Style Louis XV – Louis XVI (1900)
This beautifully made French lady's writing table has many outstanding features.
The pierced brass gallery on top surrounds a variegated red and white marble plinth and beneath are two small drawers constructed in oak with dovetail drawers. The drawer fronts have inlaid boxwood and ebony stringing lines; book-matched rosewood veneer and pretty bronze drawer pulls.
The main extending writing surface is faced with a green leather and decorative tooled outer edge.
To the front serpentine shaped edge is a brass turned pull. Below this is a full width-drawer with serpentine shaped front and bronze key and escutcheon. The round drawer pulls are also in bronze.
Four cabriole legs lead down to bronze sabot feet to the front.
The curved side panels and back all feature boxwood and ebony stringing surrounding book-matched panels.
Overall in wonderful original condition with great aged patina. Fully working lock and key. The desk has been through our workshop where it has been checked, cleaned and re-waxed.
