French Antique Giltwood Wall Mirror, Napoleon III, Louis XV Revival, c.1870
 
An elegant French giltwood wall mirror dating from the Napoleon III period, circa 1870, designed in the refined Louis XV Revival style.
 
The rectangular frame is richly decorated with a prominent bow motif, surrounded by a beautifully carved laurel wreath and flowing foliage garlands. Further floral and foliate decoration continues down either side of the frame and across the lower section, creating a particularly attractive and well-balanced design.
 
The inner frame is finished with a finely chiseled, scrolling wave pattern which adds further detail to the piece.
 
The stepped and slightly indented corners are a distinctive feature often found on mirrors from South West France.
 
The mirror is in very good antique condition. The original mirror plate has been replaced.
