French Art Deco Clock Set by M Schnerb, Paris
This impressive Art Deco Clock Set is formed in a pentagon shape of contrasting marbles and a decorative floral garland in brass at the base at the front.
Crafted by M Schnerb, Paris, the movement sits behind a convex glass door held within a brass bezel. The white enamel dial is clearly marked with art deco numbering and the store and maker's name and address "Comptoir Général M. Schnerb, 9 Boulevard Poissonnière, PARIS".
As shown in the Directory of Curiosities and Fine Arts of 1911 the Comptoir Général was a member of the Chamber of Bronze Manufacturers and was a renowned store for clocks, jewelry and bronzes.
Sitting each side of the clock are the garnitures made in the same marble as the clock.
The clock is in working order with an eight day movement that chimes on the hour.
A lovely original clock set in good condition with only minor nibbles to the marble on the garniture and a chip on the enamel dial (please see photographs).
