Large French Art Deco Figurative Group by Menneville
This large art deco figurative group depicts a reclining woman and a young child and is signed Menneville.
The artist Menneville was a prolific sculptor of Art Deco figurines. He also worked under the names of Ugo Cipriani and Uriano (1887 - 1960). Menneville initially studied in Florence at the Academy of Fine Arts before emigrating to Paris to escape fascism in 1935.
The figurines are made of cold-painted spelter and the woman has an elegant long flowing robe embellished with gilt decoration. The child wears a short black and gold striped dress.
The oval-shaped base is of polished slate with an inset onyx centre and has a green baize to the base.
The woman's head and hands are made of ivorine.
The figurines are in great original condition.
