Pair of Art Deco Ibex Bookends signed Franjou (Hippolyte Moreau)
An attractive pair of matching Art Deco bookends signed Franjou, pseudonym of the famous French sculptor Hippolyte Moreau (1832-1926).
Moreau studied under Francois Jouffroy in Paris at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Salon of French artists from 1863 to 1914, where he received medals for his work. He produced a variety of decorative and everyday objects, including vases, statues, trays and bookends.
The stylish bookends are cast in crisp clean spelter with a cold painted green and bronzed effect finish. They stand on marble bases with a high gloss lacquer finish.
